FAQ's

Do I need to change my diet while going thru IVF? No

Can I drink alcohol? It’s during the stimulation week, and beyond that we suggest or recommend that you refrain.

How many days does my husband need to abstain prior to ER day? None

Any exercise restrictions? No high impact activity after transfer, but no restrictions up to that point.

Is bleeding after ER to be expected? It is normal. You can wear a pantyliner/pad if needed, just alert us if it gets to more like a full flow.

What does dark, brown spotting indicate? Old blood, not actively bleeding.

What should I do if I forget to take the Dexamethasone on a given day? Dexamethasone can cause insomnia, so if you forget to take it, you may choose to skip the dose rather than taking too late in the day. Skipping a dose of Dexamethasone will not compromise the cycle.
What do you consider Day 1 of a period? First day of full flow

Do consents have to be notarized? Yes

Is spotting while taking the BCP normal, cause for any concern? As long as you are taking the BCP daily as directed, any break thru bleeding is of no concern. Please do let your coordinator know however.

IVF – In Vitro Fertilization

ICSI – Intracytolasmic sperm injection

CGH – comparative genomic hybrization

Can I fly? Yes, you can fly during any time of your IVF cycle, unless contradicting an office appt.

Can I swim? yes

Can I get my hair highlighted? yes

Can I get a spray tan? yes

What kind of meds you can take after ET? Usually anything over the counter, Tylenol over Advil or Motrin is preferred for general use.

What happen if your day 1 falls on the weekend? Call on the next business day.

Abstaining prior to male testing? None

Any protocols for female for ultrasound (full bladder, semi-full etc.) No full bladder needed

For pre-cycle testing AFC/FUS it is OK if you are bleeding? It is okay, and expected when you are early in your cycle.

Why birth control pills? The BCP is used as a means to manipulate your menstrual cycle into our IVF cycle. You will be on it temparily.

Can I pee them out? No

Why Ovidrel? Ovidrel is HCG, a SQ form of HCG which is patient friendly. HCG works to mature the egg and to release it from the walls of the follicle, making the aspiration of the egg from the follicle easier.

I'm doing an FET, why do I need to take Ovidrel? Even though ovulation is technically not needed, we want your body to be simulating like a normal cycle would to ensure your body is following a correct order for the embryos to implant.

I’m spotting. What does this mean? If spotting on the BCP, no concerns. If spotting during the stimulation week, let your coordinator know. If spotting after ER and ET, let your coordinator know. We will need to know more about the spotting in relation to where you are in the cycle process.

The embryos were CGH normal. Why didn’t it work? Could be for genetic reasons, immunology reasons.
